A Fraction of Fun

Mathematics is not about numbers… it is about understanding. William Paul Thurston

Fractions can show up when sharing snacks, measuring ingredients, or dividing something fairly, but they also appear in a busy Grade 4 math classroom! Our students have just completed their fractions chapter, where they practiced adding and subtracting fractions, converting them into mixed numbers, and identifying equivalent fractions. To wrap up the unit, we played a matching card game where students solved fraction problems to find their pairs. At first the numbers seemed a little confusing, but with practice our students quickly found their rhythm. Soon they were able to complete their quizzes independently and with confidence. Well done to our fourth graders for their effort and growing confidence with fractions.
