Equations, Inequalities, and Thinking Like Mathematicians

Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. Albert Einstein

Our 6th grade class recently wrapped up our unit on equations and inequalities with a word problem test. Students practiced turning real-life situations—like sharing marbles, shopping discounts, and planning costs—into algebraic expressions and equations. They focused on showing clear steps and explaining their reasoning using math properties. We also explored a fun logic puzzle about family ages and a profit problem using inequalities. It’s been great to see their confidence grow in solving multi-step problems!
