Reading with G1

A room without books is like a body without a soul. Marcus Tullius Cicero

Even though the library is currently going through renovations, our first-grade students still take 30 minutes out of the week to make reading a priority. Here they are reading nicely and quietly. It is well known that reading is one of the ways to develop new vocabulary and discover new ideas. It’s one of the ways to support English language learning, as well. They may not realize it, but as G1 gets lost in their stories, they’re indirectly improving their English language skills!

Lastly, and maybe most importantly, it’s also a period of time where students practice focusing and tuning out distraction. In an age where distractions are present everywhere, it’s more and more important to carve out time to find a moment of calm, and get immersed in a book. Good job G1’ers!
